Somerset Township in Hillsdale County has many waterways which can be good habitat for wood ducks. Hillsdale County Commissioner Ken Lautzenheiser, a member of Somerset Township Inter-Lakes Lions Club, proposed that the Club build nesting boxes for posting within the Township. Art Pendley constructed a prototype, and Curtis Gale, Jim Souder and Dave Fowler built 15 wood duck nesting boxes. Additional members helped install the boxes: David Busack, Glenn Callison, Sr., Clinton Sneary, Don Taylor and Tom Terbrueggen. Other members allowed the boxes to be placed on their property. This project helps conserve wildlife and adds to the beauty of the Township's natural environment.
