DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S LETTER

Thanks to everyone for supporting the Banner Exchange July 29th.  We had a great turnout with Lions, Lioness's, Leos, Youth
Exchange students, Past District Governors, and guests.   Allison Koker sang beautifully the" National Anthem" and "God Bless
America".  And of course our song leaders Jim Baum and Larry Shouldice led us all in the" Lions Roar", and "I've got the Lions
Spirit All Over Me".  Thanks to PDG Roberta Sexton for being Emcee and for all the preparations and decorations. And to our
guest speaker PID Bill Hansen for his presentation, and for installing our District Cabinet Officers, and to the state and district
people who set up the project tables.  Thanks to President Ken Datte and the Parma / Spring Arbor Lions Club for hosting this
event, and we all enjoyed the delicious swiss steak dinner, the pies, and the fellowship.  Also, we had invited Ralph & Carol Rice,
editor and publisher of "The County Press" and they have published a very nice article with pictures of Banner Exchange in their
paper, for great PR.
Our International President Sid Scruggs's theme "Beacon of Hope" is letting our light shine for service, and August &
September is getting our Leos and Youth to participate and help in service projects. My motto this year is "Serving Our Clubs"
and I want to be able to assist in keeping our clubs active and serving our communities.  I appreciate our 1st VDG Dan
Shepherd, and 2nd VDG Dick Dettling, in their commitment to our 11-B1 District.  I know that they will be available to assist in any
way possible in your clubs.  Our Zone Chairs, Rich Westbury, Clinton Sneary, Char Chrisman, Brian McClain, Bob Mack, and
Shawn Welker will be calling to set up visitations, and also setting up their Zone Meetings.  These Zone Chairs need your
support at these meetings.  It is a great time to get to know other clubs and see what other clubs are doing,
Walt and I  went to Manchester and participated with their club in the Parade, and had a fun day with good fellowship. 1st VDG
Dan was there, as well as the Napoleon Band.  President Peggy Allen and Barry were so busy organizing and getting their floats
and cars ready for the parade, and we all had a great time.  It was great PR for their Lions Club.  We also attended the Napoleon
Lions picnic and had an enjoyable evening with them.  It was nice to learn that they have two new members, Kathy (spouse of 1st
VDG Dan Shepherd) and Becky (spouse of IPDG Terry Walters).  Wouldn't it be something if all our spouses would decide to be
Lions?  We also attended the Jackson Eyeopener's Picnic, graciously hosted by Lion Carole Briggs, and had a wonderful time.
Several  pins and special awards were given to deserving members.
We attended the Governor's Day at Bear Lake Camp, and all of us Governor's were graciously greeted by Nancy and Dennis,
who gave us a grand tour of their facilities.  We had lunch with the visually impaired campers who were there for the week .
These kids are so energetic and were so happy to be at camp.  We watched as they were playing and swimming in the lake.  We
were able to look through special lens, to be able to see, the way that these kids see, with their individual sight problems. This is
a beautiful camp, the buildings, the cabins, the lake, and to see how the staff works with these campers is a delight.  I urge all our
clubs to continue your generous support of Bear Lake Camp, and if you have never been there, you should make a point of
visiting soon.
Each club has been sent the Project Kidsight letter, explaining the need for the new digital screening equipment,  and also the
new Membership Incentive Program. We need to keep these things known to our members, and support all our projects and
district programs.
The District's Fall Conference will be October 16th, and it's not too early to start planning for the Parade of Checks.  Also it's
time to get your Peace Poster kits to your area schools, check with school band leaders to get members for the All State Band,
and also several clubs are still doing the Back Pak Program for school kids.  September is the month to get back into our normal
routines after summer breaks and vacations, so let's all get excited about our Lions Clubs.
I have started scheduling Governor Visits, so I hope that you will call or email me, so that I can come and visit your club and
get to know everyone.
Serving Our Clubs,
DG Barb
